Storm Runs Well at La Crosse

Men

Ian McKenzie finished in the top-25 to lead the Simpson men’s cross country team to a 12th-place finish at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational Saturday.

The Storm scored 276 points — four points behind the tenth-ranked team in the region, Central — with all of their top seven clocking in top-100 team-place finishes. Simpson finished behind six regionally ranked teams and ahead of seventh-ranked Grinnell (19th)

McKenzie finished the 8k course in 25:53.34 to place 22nd, followed by Trey Thompson (39th) in 26:10.84 and Jonathan Facio(60th) in 26:28.85. The trio finished 1, 2, 3 for the Storm in the second straight meet.

The duo of Sadie Timms and Courtney Neuendorf paced the Simpson women’s cross country team to a 13th-place finish of 21 teams Saturday at the Jim Drews/Tori Neubauer Invitational in the final tune-up before the Iowa Conference Championships in two weeks.

Six of the Storm’s seven varsity finishers ran career-best times on the 6k course in the meet hosted by Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Timms placed 37th in the field of 298 runners, navigating the course in 23:18.67, the fastest 6k of her career. Neuendorf finished just outside of the top-50, taking 52nd in a career-best time of 23:48.7.

Mary Wood, Emily Buchheit, Ashlee Litterer and Lesley Roquet all ran personal-best times despite a wet, sloppy track. Shelby Hunemiller ran her fastest time of the season.
