As the Mizzou Track & Field team split in two separate directions on Friday evening, nine student-athletes set personal records while four set all-time top-10 marks in program history. Three of those top-10 marks came from women’s distance runners at the Iowa State Classic in Ames, Iowa, while five personal records were set on the first day of competition at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Ark.

Leading the way once again for the Tigers was junior Karissa Schweizer (Urbandale, Iowa), who finished first in the 3,000m run at the Iowa State Classic with a personal-record time of 9:06.60. The 3K time for Schweizer currently stands as the second-fastest indoor time in the nation, and is the second-fastest indoor 3K time in program history, falling just short of Sabrina Dornhoefer’s 1984 mark of 9:06.39.
In the 5,000m invitational heat, redshirt sophomore Jamie Kempfer (Festus, Mo.) and redshirt junior Nicole Mello (Columbia, Mo.) both set all-time top-10 marks with personal records. Kempfer finished fifth in the heat with a time of 16:05.23, which currently ranks as the 14th-fastest time in the nation, while Mello finished at 16:41.15, almost a full minute faster than her previous best time of 17:34.27. Kempfer’s time is the second-fastest indoor 5K time in program history, while Mello’s time ranks eighth.
In Fayetteville, Mizzou had six top-10 finishes, including a third-place finish in the mile run invitational heat from sophomore Thomas George (Gloucester, England), who ran a personal record time of 4:08.86. In the 60m dash, sophomore Maya Cody (St. Louis, Mo.) set her personal-record in the qualifying heat with a time of 7.39, before recording a 7.44 in the preliminary round. The PR time for Cody improves on her already second-fastest indoor 60m dash time in program history of 7.40.
In the field events, redshirt freshman Patrick Kunza (Wentzville, Mo.) set a personal record with a fifth-place finish in the weight throw, recording a throw of 18.42m (60-5.25).
Mizzou is finished at the Iowa State Classic, but will continue with competition at the Tyson Invitational tomorrow, beginning with field events at 11 a.m. CT, followed by running events at 1 p.m. CT. An online stream of the meet will be available on SEC Network +.
