The Iowa State women’s night at the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships was highlighted by Jhoanmy Luque‘s seventh place finish and First Team All-America honors in the long jump. Jasmine Staebler earned Second Team All-America honors in the 800-meter run, as she just missed out on making the final.

Luque earned the Cyclones two team points, putting the Cyclones in a tie for 29th place in the team standings.

Luque was one of the few to get on the board in the first round, as she was amongst the leaders with a first leap of 20-5 3/4 (6.24m). Her third jump was her best at 20-6 1/2 (6.26m), but the rest of the field caught up to her, as she went from fourth to seventh. She was consistent in the final round, posting a pair of 20-5 3/4 (6.24m) in the fifth and sixth round, but staying in the same spot of seventh.

The effort saw her earn First Team All-America honors for the fourth time in her career, and for the first time in the indoor long jump. Luque is now a nine-time All-American during her ISU career heading into tomorrow’s triple jump.

Staebler was caught up in traffic throughout the race and struggled to move up the field. On the final lap, Staebler looked to make her move on the backstretch on the outside, but literally ran into traffic that saw her finish the heat in sixth. Despite being in the faster of the two heats, her placing of sixth in the section kept her out of contention from advancing. ISU protested the race due to the contact, but was unable to get anything out of it, she first runner out of tomorrow’s final, just 0.27 seconds out. Staebler’s ninth-place finish earned her Second Team All-America honors, she is now a three-time All-American in her Cyclone career.
