Split Teams Perform Well For Panthers

The UNI men’s and women’s track and field teams performed admirably at during split competitions at the Notre Dame Meyo Invite and the Nebraska Husker Invite.

The Panthers combined for 12 top-eight finishes, highlighted by Keegan Tritle’sthird-place finish in the shot put in Nebraska and Connor Ham’s third-place finish in the 60-meter hurdles.

Tritle threw 60-3.25 to take third, but Darius King took third with a throw of 59-9.75 and Isaac Holtz hit 58-3.75 for eighth place.

Ham won his section of the 60h final with a time of 8.03 for third place in an event that included 34 entries. Cole Phillips finished eighth in the event with a time of 8.22.

On the women’s side, Maddie McCalla finished fifth in the 400m dash at the Meyo with a season-best time of 55.34 to improve her MVC best time by .23 of a second.

Alanna Nietert finished fifth in the weight throw with a season-best mark of 61-6.75.

Other top-eight finishers were; Lyndsie Schinkel (7th – 800m), Cade Kirkpatrick (4th – long jump), Cameron Bauer (8th – pole vault), Tayshaun Cooper (6th – 200m) and Evan Long (6th – 400m).

In total, 19 UNI athletes improved their season marks in the MVC top-20 rankings.

UP NEXT: The Panther split again next weekend with groups going to the South Dakota State Classic and the Iowa State Classic. Both meets run Friday and Saturday.
