The University of Northern Iowa track and field program is set to compete in the 2015 Missouri Valley Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, May 15-17, hosted by Illinois State.

The meet will begin on Friday, May 15 with the decathlon and the heptathlon. Derek

, Jayvon Matthews and J.C. Abrahamson will take part in their first MVC decathlon while on the women’s side, Rachel Peth, Chaley Rath and Lauren Frederick will participate in the heptathlon.

Jacobus and Peth are both ranked third in the MVC in the decathlon and heptathlon after their PR performances at the Drake Relays.

UNI returns six student-athletes and two relay teams that earned All-MVC last season at the outdoor championships, including Brandon Carnes and Libby Torresani, who both brought home individual titles. The Panthers currently have 33 athletes between the men’s and women’s team that are ranked in the top-10 in the conference in their respective events heading into the championship meet.

On the men’s side, Sebastian Barth and Brandon Carnes will look to capture individual titles in the 110 meter hurdles and the 100 and 200 meter dashes. For the field events, Justin Baker is a strong contender in the throws event, posting a big personal-best in the shot put at the Wisconsin Open that ranked him third all-time at UNI.

Alex Wilson has proven to be a force in the middle distance events this outdoor season and will look to capture titles in the 1,500 and 800 meter runs this weekend. She has broken the school record in the 1,500 meters twice this season and now sits No. 2 all-time at UNI after her career-best time of 2:07.58.

In the field events for the women, Libby Torresani will look to defend her outdoor pole vault championship after she broke the school record with her PR height of 13-3.75 at the Musco Invitational. Rath, who will take a shot at earning all-conference in the heptathlon, is also ranked first in the MVC in the high jump with her mark of 5-8.75 which is the second best height in UNI history.
