This year’s MVC Cross Country Championships will be hosted by Missouri State at the Springfield Underground. The men’s 8K will start 10:35 a.m. CT and the women’s 5K race will begin soon after at 11:35 a.m. CT. Both races will be broadcast on ESPN3.

“We’re looking forward to getting out there and battling this weekend,” head coach Dave Paulsensaid. “We are putting the emphasis on being a tight pack, because there’s not as many teams when you race at the MVC Championship. I know our runners are excited to show what they can do on Saturday.”

Last season, the Panther women won the MVC title on their home course. The championship marked the UNI women’s first since 2000. Hannah Truniger was named the MVC Freshman of the Year following her top-10 finish, while Coach Paulsen earned MVC Coach of the Year honors.

UNI’s women are projected to finish second at the MVC Championships, while the men are predicted to come in sixth. Bradley was slotted first in both the women and men pre-championship poll, with the Braves seeking their third-consecutive title on the men’s side.

This season, the Panther women are coming into Saturday’s championship on a role in their last two races. In that stretch the women won the Joe Piane Invite Gold Race, while earning sixth overall at the Bradley Pink Classic last time out.

Leading the way for UNI has been sophomore Truniger, who owns two top-10 finishes this season. Senior Brette Correy has turned in three top-15 finishes, while junior Tiffany Christensen owns three top-15’s as well.

On the men’s side, the time for UNI has steadily improved over the course of the season. Two Panthers, Luke Johnston and Alex Jackson posted their best times in the 8K at the Bradley Pink Classic, while seven other Panthers made improvements in their 8K times two races ago at the Joe Piane Invite.

The UNI men have also been led by a sophomore, as CJ May has earned two top-15 finishes this season. May owns the UNI men’s best finish of the season, after coming in fifth overall at the Wisconsin Mayflower Day Open back on Sept. 16.

The MVC Cross Country Championships will both air on ESPN3. The men’s 8K can be viewed here, while the women’s 5K can be watched here.

Missouri State will provide results of Saturday’s race, those wishing to view the stats can visit here.
