The University of Northern Iowa track and field program hit the road for the first time in 2018, with the Panthers competing in the Jim Emmerich Invite on Saturday.

Minnesota placed first on the men’s side, while South Dakota won for the men. Both the men (36) and the women (35) finished fifth overall for UNI at Saturday’s event.
On the men’s side, the Panthers earned Top-5 finishes in six events. The highest on the day was from the 4×400 relay team of Jojo Frost, Sven Van Den Bergh, Jordan Pingel and Connor Blough, who came in second with a time of 3:13.38. Frost (4th; 48.61) and Pingel (3rd; 1:52.20) each earned another Top-5 in the 400 and 800-meter respectively to cap their strong effort on Saturday.
On the women’s side, the Panthers finished in the Top-5 in four events on Saturday. The Best showing for UNI came in the 1-mile run, as Brette Correy finished second with a time of 4:51.11). The Panthers had two Top-5 runners in the 3000-meter, as Hannah Truniger (9:54.81) and McKayla Cole (9:58.57) came in third and fifth overall.
After the short trip to Brookings, the Panthers return home next week for a pair of meets as UNI hosts the Jack Jennett Open (Jan. 25-26) and the Mark Messersmith Invitational (Jan. 27).
