Senior Jasmine Nielsen (Denver, Iowa) ran a personal best and finished 14th to lead the Vikings in the 4k course at the Mustang Gallop held Tuesday at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

Nielsen’s time of 16:13 lands her third of all-time at Grand View for a 4k course. In addition, several others finished with personal best times including junior Kim Teno (Albia, Iowa) with a 21st place finish and time of 16:33, junior Hayley Leonard (Maxwell, Iowa) with 22nd place finish and time of 16:34, sophomore Anna Halstead (Roland, Iowa) with her time of 17:08 and sophomore Christa Nordgren (Kirkland, Ill.) with a time of 17:23. Freshman Karina Johnson (Eagan, Minn.) finished in 17:36 landing her fourth on the all-time Grand View freshman list in a 4k course. The Vikings placed 4th overall as a team and had three runners finish in the Top 25 out of 94 individual finishers.
On the men’s side, the Vikings placed sixth out of nine total teams and were led by senior Kennedy Kiprop (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) with a personal best time of 17:35 in a 5k. Also placing were junior Rhett Gainey (Monroe, Iowa) (28th) with a time of 18:03 and freshman Alex Arechavaleta (Altoona, Iowa) (30th) with a time of 18:11. Arechavaleta’s time sets him in fourth place on the all-time Grand View freshman leaderboard for a 5k course. Junior Chris DeJoode (Des Moines, Iowa) also ran a personal best.
Both teams will be back in action on Saturday (Sept. 5) at the Dutch Invitational held at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
