Loras men’s cross country senior Mason Tope  has been named the Iowa Conference Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday. This honor is the first of the season for Tope, although he has also been recognized as the Iowa Conference Runner of the Week, three times this season.

On Saturday at the Iowa Conference Championships, Tope was named the Outstanding Runner after winning the 8k race with a time of 25:03. Tope is the first Duhawk since Ben Grant in 2006 to receive this honor and is the ninth to do so in program history.

Tope’s performance helped lead the Duhawks to their fourth-straight IIAC Title.

Loras heads to Northfield, Minn. on Nov. 11 to compete in the NCAA Division III Central Regional, hosted by Carleton. The Duhawks are the reigning regional champions and can solidify a return trip to the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, set for Saturday, Nov. 18 in Elsah, Ill.
