DuHawks Dominate Regionals

The Loras men’s cross country team went back-to-back as the Duhawks repeated as NCAA Central Region Champions on Saturday. Led by senior Brien Nugent who finished fourth place overall, Loras placed three runners in the top-six and five in the top-30. The women’s team finished 12th out of 32 teams, led by freshman Kristan Brown who placed 48th overall.

NOTABLES
-On the men’s side, the Duhawks were the only team to finish all seven runners within the top-50 of the field
-Nugent improved on his Iowa Conference Championships race time from last weekend by 18 seconds overall, good enough to place him in the top-10 all time at Loras in the 8k
-Led by Brown, the women’s team boasted four student-athletes earning lifetime PR’s at Saturday’s Region Championship
-After Saturday’s race, Loras’ men have won six of the seven races they have competed in this season … Only non-win was at the Pre-Nationals Race on Oct. 14
-With the win, the Duhawks have earned an automatic bid to the 2017 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships

UP NEXT
The men’s team travel to Elsah, Ill. to compete in the 2017 NCAA National Championships hosted by Principia College. This year marks the fourth straight year the Duhawks will be competing on the national stage, finishing 10th overall a year ago.
