Many of Iowa State’s stars shone in the shortened event, giving fans a glimpse of what is yet to come in 2018. Two of the Cyclones’ returning All-Americans were victorious, with Jasmine Staebler kicking off the meet with a win in the mile (4:57.86), and coming from behind to snatch the 4×400-meter relay on the anchor leg. In the men’s high jump, Jalen Ford tied his personal best with a best leap of 7-0 1/2 to win the competition.

Jaymes Dennison showed he was ready for another big season as the senior from New Jersey picked up a victory in the 400-meter dash (47.79) and pulled away on the homestretch to anchor the men’s 4×400-meter relay to a victory in 3:13.42. Other men’s winners included Elijah Young in the 60-meter hurdles (8.15), Chandler Diercks in the long jump (23-0 3/4) and Vlad Pavlenko in the weight throw (59-2 3/4).

Other winners for the Cyclone women included Jalaiya Barley in the long jump (18-9 3/4), Christabel Okeke in the weight throw (61-10 1/2) and Essence Henderson in the shot put (47-11 1/4).
