Cornell’s youth shined bright in the blistering heat Tuesday as the Rams raced to the men’s team title at Mount Mercy’s Mustang Gallop at Seminole Valley Park.
The Rams had four freshmen follow veteran frontrunner Josh Lindsay (SR/Waukesha, Wis.) en route to their first meet title since 2012. Cornell scored a 54-63 victory over runner-up Coe in a field of nine teams. Mount Mercy was third with 72 points.
Lindsay secured fifth place to head Cornell’s charge. The senior all-conference performer was clocked in 16 minutes, 44 seconds over the five kilometers.
Cornell newcomers Caleb Wilson (FR/Madison, Wis.) (16:57), Austin Bach (FR/Larkspur, Colo.) (17:02) and Cuyler Gabriel (FR/Santa Barbara, Calif.) (17:03) finished eighth, ninth and 10th, respectively. The team’s fifth scorer Matthew McDermott (FR/Menasha, Wis.), also a freshman, crossed the line in 17:43 for 22nd place.
Junior Tucker Horan (JR/Cherry Hills, Colo.) placed 23rd (17:46). Zach Stoll (SO/West Bend, Wis.) came in 26th (17:50).
Dubuque’s Alec Bass was crowned individual champion with a time of 16:10.
