Senior Val Veiock (Des Moines, Iowa) has been named MCC Outdoor Field Athlete of the week.
Veiock won her fifth award by placing high in three events at the Concordia Invitational. She was fourth in the hammer throw at 179-0 and was seventh in both the discus (146-8) and shot put (44-8). She bettered her season marks, which are all ‘A’ standards, in all three events.
The Vikings travel to Crete, Nebraska this weekend (April 17-18) to compete in the Jim Dutcher Memorial.
The Viking’s men’s track and field team had two first place finishes, hit two NAIA National marks, and set Grand View records over the weekend at the Concordia Invitational.
Grand View saw first place finishes from senior Kenny Simmons (St. Louis, Mo.) in the triple jump and sophomore Malik Denny (Des Moines, Iowa) in the high jump. Simmons hit a NAIA qualifying mark and also set a Grand View record with his jump of 14.83m. Denny set a Grand View record and had a personal best with his jump of 2.00m. Junior Cameron Paddock (Monticello, Iowa) placed fifth and hit the NAIA ‘B’ standard in the shot put with a distance of 15.29m and sophomore Taylor Mitchell (Des Moines, Iowa) placed third in the discus with his throw of 47.73m.
In the track events, freshman Leeshad O’Neal (Wharton, Texas) placed second in the 200m (21.92) and junior Kennedy Kiprop (Pleasant Hill, Iowa) placed third in the 10k (36:37.99).
The Viking’s 4×400 team (O’Neal-Harjes-Christensen-Cory) ran a season best 3:22.95 and placed fifth.
The Vikings travel to Crete, Neb. this weekend (April 17-18) to compete in the Jim Dutcher Memorial.
Viking Women Ranked Nationally
The Grand View women’s track and field program is now ranked in the top 25 of the NAIA National Team Computer Ratings unveiled Wednesday by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The women are the No. 25 team in the nation, accumulating 83.85 points. Notable point-getters for the ladies:
