Altier and Morrow Lead the Norse at Conference

Men

The University of Dubuque hosted the American Rivers Conference cross country championships at the Dubuque Soccer Complex.

Wartburg College won the league title with 19 points. The Knights placed seven of their runners in the top-nine and 10 runners in the top-15.Wartburg was led by individual champion Joe Freiburger who covered the 8K course in 26:47.6.

Luther placed second with 58 points, followed by Loras College with 103. Luther’s second place finish is its highest finish at the conference championship 2011.

Three Norse earned all-conference honors by placing in the top-15 from the field o f169 runners. Tom Altier finished second, earning all-conference honors for the second year in a row. Altier crossed the finish line with a time of 26:57. Ian Kelly and Dan Iselin earned all-conference honors for the first time. Kelly placed 10th (27:36) and Iselin placed 13th (27:50).

Completing the Norse five was Sam Schillinger (19th – 27:59) and Collin Kern (23rd – 28:08).

Women

Wartburg College won the championship with 36 points, followed by Luther with 59, and Loras College was third with 65. Luther’s second place finish was it highest finish at the league finale since 2015. The Norse also finished second that year.

The Knights Corina Collet was the individual champion. Collet covered the 5K course with a time of 19:18.6. Kassie Rosenbum of Loras College was the runner-up clocked at 19:27.2.

Four Norse earned all-conference honors by placing in the top-15 from the field of 135 runners. Amelia Morrow and Heather Hostager earned all-conference honors for the second time of their careers. Morrow placed sixth (29:21) and Hostager was 13th (20:45.9). Vera Lindhorst, who placed seventh (20:23.3) and Lauren Berg, who placed 15th (20:52.7), received conference medals for the first time.

Completing the Norse seven and where they placed included Katie Fetting (18th – 21:04.2), Amelia Hornseth (19th – 21:04.4) and Kat Hoffman (23rd – 21:12.4).

Two weeks from today, Wartburg College will host the NCAA III Central Regional. This will be the qualifying meet for the NCAA III National Championships. Race time for the women in Waverly, Iowa is slated for Noon.
